Taseko Lake Outfitters covers a 500 square mile territory which stretches from where Fish Creek feeds into Taseko River in the north to White Cross Mountain and Bridge Glacier, (headwaters of Bridge River) in the south; from Big Creek in the east to the Taseko lakes and headwaters of the Lord River in the west.

The Chilcotin Mountains run along the southeast side of the territory and the Coast Mountains border the southwest. Taseko lakes are nestled between the two mountain ranges. Elevations range from 4365' to Taseko Mountain at 10,044'. Vick's Mountain sheltering Taseko Lake Lodge stands at 8000'.

The high mountain climate is generally dry and includes hot days, cool nights and the occasional mountain storm.

Some areas of the Taseko Lakes and Rivers are part of the Ts'yl-os Provincial Park, 233 240 ha, where one quarter of the Fraser River's salmon are born.

Ts'yl-os Provincial Park is within the traditional territories of the Xeni Gwet'in, or Nemiah people, of the Tsilhqot'in First Nation. The park takes its name from the mountain known to Tsilhqot'in as Ts'yl-os (Mt Tatlow, 10043'). Chilcotin means, "People of the blue water."

History

Taseko Lake Lodge is near the site of an old mining camp. The original lodge, called Whitewater Lodge, was built in the 1920's by a cowboy/packer/prospector named Bill Woods. Bill had a way with animals and always had a well trained horse and dog with him. He was a good packer whom other miners in the area often relied on for supplies. The lodge had several owners since Bill Woods and was rebuilt in the 1980's by Taseko Lake outfitter, Sherwood Henry.

In the 1930's another prospector, Christopher Vick, staked a claim at the end of Taseko Lake/ Beece Creek. The 8000' mountain behind Taseko Lake Lodge is named after him—Vick's Mountain.

The tales of the early days are rich with adventure. They could fill a book! Suffice to say, if you are interested in hearing more, we will fill your ears around the campfire during your stay with us.

Your present day hosts Sigfried and Kelly Reuter have since turned Taseko Lake into a first class wilderness destination in the Chilcotin while retaining a true wilderness experience and maintaining its rich pioneer heritage.
